Nyayo National Stadium remains the spiritual home of top-flight Kenyan football. Whether you are attending your first KPL match or a seasoned regular looking for tips, this guide covers everything — from buying tickets in advance to where to find the best nyama choma within walking distance of the ground.
Getting tickets
Tickets for KPL matches at Nyayo are available through the official FKF ticketing platform online and at gate kiosks from two hours before kickoff. For derby fixtures involving Gor Mahia or AFC Leopards, online booking is strongly recommended — sold-out situations have occurred three times this season. General admission is KSh 200, with VIP and corporate hospitality packages available through the respective clubs.
Getting there
- Matatu: Routes 19, 33, and 46 all stop within five minutes of the main gate on Mombasa Road
- Boda boda: readily available from the CBD; agree the fare before you board
- Car: limited parking inside the grounds — street parking on Langata Road fills quickly for big matches
- On foot from the CBD: approximately 35 minutes, feasible in the cooler evening kickoffs
Best seating sections
The North Stand offers the best unobstructed view of both penalty areas and is where the most vocal home support sits for Gor Mahia matches. The South Stand is typically where the visiting club's fans congregate and generates excellent atmosphere when the away following is strong. The East Stand is the family-friendly option, with slightly less noise but excellent sightlines and proximity to the main concourse food vendors.
